Watch: Quinton de Kock takes a brilliant diving catch to end Shikhar Dhawan’s innings of 70

Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shikhar Dhawan failed to take his team home in the ongoing match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The match between the two teams will take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Chasing the target of 200 runs, Shikhar Dhawan gave a powerful start to his innings as he, along with Jonny Bairstow (42), put the Lucknow bowlers under immense pressure. The duo added 102 runs for the opening wicket and it looked like Punjab would win the game easily.

However, that was not the case as Mayank Yadav’s introduction changed things for them. The pacer picked three wickets and put pressure on Punjab Kings. Shikhar Dhawan was stranded at one end and looked like he would take his team home.

But he couldn’t because he died at the crucial moment of the game. Shikhar Dhawan looked good to look at and played superb shots in his innings. The way he was batting, it took something special to get him out and Quinton de Kock did exactly that behind the stumps.

During the 17th over, Mohsin Khan bowled a short ball down the leg side. Shikhar Dhawan attempted a shot but only managed a glove. The ball seemed not to reach the goalkeeper. But Quinton de Kock made a stellar leap forward to send the batsman packing.

Here is the video:

Shikhar Dhawan played a magnificent innings with the bat and finished with an innings of 70 off 50 balls. The batsman played a strike rate of 140. The left-hander hit 7 fours and 3 sixes in his innings and kept his team in the hunt at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium.

After his wicket, Punjab Kings were left reeling as they lost wickets early. Mayank Yadavs and Moshin Khan made a mockery of the batting line-up and took away the wickets in no time. They picked 5 wickets between them and won the game by 21 runs.

We will have to improve in the future – Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan spoke about his team’s performance and admitted that Mayank Yadav changed the game for Lucknow Super Giants. He said he was surprised with the player’s fast pace. He added that we must analyze the defeats and come back strong.

“They played well, it’s a shame Livi (Livingstone) got injured, that hurt us, she would have come at 4. We started well, but Mayank bowled well with his pace. It was nice to face him, I was surprised by his pace.

But he wanted to use his pace against him, but he bowled bouncers and yorkers well. We will have to analyze these defeats, the fall did cost us some momentum. That is something we will have to improve in the future.”

The Punjab Kings will be seen in action next when they take on the Gujarat Titans on April 4. They would hope to return in the next game.
