Jasprit Bumrah and Rahmullah Gurbaz

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah was at his exceptional best with the ball in the match against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Super 8 encounter of the tournament between the teams took place at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.

After India posted a total of 181 runs on the board, Jasprit Bumrah produced a superlative effort with the new ball. He drew first blood for his team when he removed Rahmanullah Gurbaz and made the batsman’s statement about the Indian bowlers being counterproductive in the game.

Ahead of the India-Afghanistan match, Rahmanullah Gurbaz made a bold statement and said that he does not have Jasprit Bumrah as his only target but would look to take all the players to the cleaners. Speaking to the ICC, he stated:

“Honestly, my target is not just Jasprit Bumrah. I will look to target all the (Indian) bowlers, five bowlers overall and I have to face them. It’s just a battle against Bumrah. Maybe another bowler can get me out. But yes, If I get a chance to hit him (Bumrah), let’s go for it. It could be Bumrah, Arshdeep or Siraj. If someone bowls in my crease, then I will hit them or get it outside.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz stood by his statement in the first over as he hit Arshdeep Singh for a six and a four in the first over. But in the next over, Jasprit Bumrah oozed class with the ball and sent the batsman packing the second ball bowled to him.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled a slower ball wide outside off and Rahmanullah Gurbaz went to chase it. He tried to hit the ball out of the park but managed only an outside edge which was caught by goalkeeper Rishabh Pant with ease.

Here is the video:

Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored only 11 runs off 8 balls. After their wicket, Afghanistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and went all out for 134 runs as India won the game by 47 runs. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 3/7, which is the best by an Indian bowler in the T20 World Cup.

Bumrah continues to show why he is the best in the world – Wasim Jaffer

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer was amazed by the way the Indian team performed after the match against Afghanistan. He believes Kuldeep Yadav’s absence makes the team more lethal ahead of T20 World 2024.

Wasim Jaffer was also impressed with the way Jasprit Bumrah bowled in the game. He stated that the pacer continues to prove why he is rated as the best in the world. On his Twitter account, he explained:

“Great defense from the players, didn’t give Afg even a sniff. The addition of Kuldeep makes the attack more lethal. Bumrah continues to show why he is the best in the world! Well played 👏🏻
