Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the hero for Dindigul Dragons in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024. Under the leadership of the off-spinner, the team won the title by beating Lyca Kovai Kings in the final of the tournament.

Ravichandran Ashwin led from the front with a magical effort with both bat and ball. The off-spin bowler played a magnificent innings and scored a vital half-century for his team. He finished with an innings of 52 runs off 46 balls and led his team to the title win.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s effort came with the bat as Dindigul Dragons lost the top two early on. The team captain steadied the ship and ensured that his team was on the right track in the 130-run chase and guided them to the title win in the 2024 edition of the league.

Ravichandran Ashwin also had a sensational performance with the ball. He bowled 4 overs and gave away just 13 runs. Overall, in the entire tournament, the off-spin bowler was exceptional as he performed equally well with both the bat and the ball.

Ravichandran Ashwin scored 252 runs with the bat throughout the tournament and also took 9 wickets. The off-spinner was sensational as the captain of the team as he led the team well and ensured that he got the best out of his players throughout the tournament.

When Dindigul Dragons won the title, former India coach Rahul Dravid handed over the trophy to Ravichandran Ashwin. The bowler tried to replicate Dravid’s victory celebration at the 2024 T20 World Cup when he collected the trophy after winning the 2024 TNPL. Seeing this, the former India head coach lightly hit out at the veteran spin bowler.

This victory came in the course of events – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin spoke about the victory in the TNPL 2024 and stated that the victory in the final came in the course of events. He stressed that they did not start the tournament with a huge momentum but rather they picked up momentum at the right time. Speaking about the victory, he explained:

“This win came in the course of things. We were the only team to lose to Salem in this tournament. We didn’t start the tournament very well but we picked up momentum at the right time. It was a perfect match. You have to give credit to Sarath Kumar; he was exactly like Jonty Rhodes, throwing himself all over the place in this final. I came into this tournament with the intention of opening the scoring.

“We didn’t have a head coach in this tournament, and the two coaches we had are friends of mine. I wanted to open, but after the first two games, we had a discussion to keep me lower down the order because the wickets were slow, just for a psychological advantage. But cricket aside, I had a great time touring Tamil Nadu with this team,” he concluded.
