[WATCH] RCB star copies Rohit Sharma’s iconic celebration as he lifts CPL 2024 trophy

His celebratory walk was a striking homage to Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s iconic walk during India’s victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup earlier this year.

A Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star copied Virat Kohli’s iconic walk celebration while lifting the Trophy of the recently concluded Caribbean Champions League (CPL 2024).

After leading the Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) to their first title with a six-wicket victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in the CPL 2024 final, du Plessis, who is also the RCB captain, celebrated in a way that immediately went viral.

His celebratory walk was a striking homage to Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s iconic walk during India’s victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup earlier this year.

The moment resonated with fans because Rohit’s slow, confident walk, highlighted by a proud smile and crossed arms, had become a defining image of India’s T20 World Cup triumph.

By imitating him, du Plessis subtly honored one of cricket’s modern legends while also making the celebration his own after an unforgettable victory.

Saint Lucia Kings win their first CPL title

For Saint Lucia Kings, the road to the championship had been long and challenging. Under the leadership of former T20 World Cup-winning captain Daren Sammy, the Kings went from constant losers to serious title contenders.

Their perseverance finally paid off with a resounding victory over GAW in the finals.

While SLK’s bowling attack set the stage, with young Afghan spinner Noor Ahmed taking 3 wickets for just 19 runs, the team found themselves struggling at 51 for 4 in their chase of 139. However, Roston Chase (39 for 22) and Aaron Jones (48 off 31) staged a brilliant comeback, securing the first CPL title for SLK with 11 balls to spare.

Speaking after the win, Faf du Plessis said: “I am very proud of the team for showing bravery throughout the tournament and getting the job done. At the beginning of the competition in Saint Lucia there was excitement about this will be the season. First CPL trophy and it is a great achievement.”
