Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant received a grand welcome from the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ahead of the start of the Delhi Premier League. The left-hander was rewarded for winning the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Pant, who was part of the Indian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, is playing the first match of the Delhi Premier League. The wicketkeeper-batsman is part of the Purani Delhi 6 squad and will play just one match in the event, which is being held against South Delhi Superstarz at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Pant’s presence in the first match of the tournament will be a big boost for the Delhi Premier League, the inaugural edition of which began today. His presence will undoubtedly set the tone and be a great encouragement for the youngsters.

Ahead of the start of the match between Purani Delhi 6 and South Delhi Superstarz, Pant was given a huge honour. The wicketkeeper-batsman was given a red carpet welcome and then congratulated by DDCA President Arun Jaitley and BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla.

Rishabh Pant played a vital role for the Indian National Cricket Team in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The wicketkeeper-batsman made his comeback for the team in the tournament. He was out of action for a while due to the horrific accident he suffered in December 2023 after the Bangladesh series.

Pant had a good campaign with the bat as he helped his team in critical situations and bailed them out of trouble. His best performance came in the game against Pakistan where he top-scored for his team with 42 runs and helped them register a fighting total.

Rishabh Pant was India’s third-highest run-scorer in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The left-hander scored 171 runs in 8 matches. Apart from this, he was sensational behind the stumps with the gloves and changed the game many times for his team at crucial moments in the tournament.

Rishabh Pant was in fine form with the bat in the ongoing match between Purani Delhi 6 and South Delhi Superstarz in the Delhi Premier League. The left-hander played some glorious shots in his innings and finished with 35 runs off 32 balls.

After the ongoing match, Rishabh Pant will leave the tournament and prepare for the Duleep Trophy. He has been named in India’s B squad for the tournament and will play under the leadership of Abhimanyu Easwaran. The tournament will also mark his return to red-ball cricket after a long time.

Rishabh Pant, who has returned to India to take part in T20Is and ODIs, is also likely to return to the Test squad for a two-match series against Bangladesh next month. The series between the teams will begin on September 19.
