Indian national cricket team player Shreyas Iyer produced an incredible direct knock to dismiss Sri Lanka national cricket team player Kamindu Mendis in the second ODI of the three-match series at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, August 4.
Shreyas Iyer is considered one of the best fielders in the Indian team and is equally effective in taking balls and producing runs. He displayed absolute brilliance in the first innings of the second match of the series.
On the penultimate ball of the first innings, Arshdeep Singh bowled a short ball to Kamindu Mendis from outside the off-stump and he hooked it. The ball fell in front of Shreyas Iyer, who came running in from mid-wicket.
The Indian star was very quick to pick up the ball and launch a pistol shot towards the batsman’s side. Shreyas Iyer had only one stump visible from his angle but he aimed perfectly and hit the target. Sri Lankan batsman Kamindu was taken by surprise with the direct hit.
Also, Indian captain Rohit Sharma applauded Iyer’s efforts on the field and also looked quite surprised. Meanwhile, Kamindu Mendis returned to the dugout after scoring 40 runs in 44 balls, with 4 fours.

In the end, Sri Lanka national cricket team scored 240/9 on the board. On India’s part, Washington Sundar emerged as the best performer with his haul of 3 wickets for just 30 runs.
How did Indian bowlers perform in the first ODI?
The Indian National Cricket Team bowlers did a good job in the opening clash of the series on August 2 in Colombo. The Men in Blue were invited to bowl first and the onus was on the bowling unit to restrict the opposing team to a low total.
In the second over, Mohammed Siraj removed Avishka Fernando for 1. Soon, Shivam Dube removed Kusal Mendis in the 14th over, and the next three wickets fell in quick succession, which saw the Lankan Lions reeling at 5-101.
Rohit Sharma then tried to use all his weapons but failed to dismiss Dunith Wellalage. The youngster took on the Indian bowlers with confidence and ensured that his team posted a fighting total on the board.
In all, Rohit used seven bowling options in the match, including one from part-timer Shubman Gill, who conceded 14 runs, and proved to be a game-changer in the end.
Left-handed spinner Arshdeep Singh and left-handed spinner Axar Patel picked up two wickets each for India. Also, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav and Shivam Dube picked up one wicket each to restrict Sri Lanka to 230/8. The man of the match was Axar with his figures of 10-0-33-2. However, in the end, a poor performance by the batsmen meant that the match ended in a draw.
