Quetta Gladiators goalkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmed was almost injured by his teammate Mohammad Wasim Jr during the Pakistan Super League match against Multan Sultans. Sarfaraz was hit by Wasim Jr on the head when the pacer threw the ball into the air after catching Multan batsman Reeza Hendricks. The right-hand batsman tried to hit a lofted shot towards the mid-wicket region, but Wasim Jr caught it on the boundary.

Mohammad Wasim Jr. became animated and threw the ball in the air which hit the head of Sarfaraz Ahmed. Sarfaraz fell on the field and needed immediate medical help. The seriousness of the situation became clear when he was rushed off the field and transported to a hospital for a full CT scan.

Sarfaraz Ahmed was replaced by wicketkeeper Sajjad Ali as a concussion substitute, after which Sarfaraz did not come out to bat in the second innings.

Batting first, Multan Sultans were able to post a score of 180/4 thanks to Reeza Hendricks’ 72-run knock off 47 balls. Reeza smashed seven fours and four sixes during his stay at the crease. Multan captain Mohammad Rizwan also smashed a half-century and gave stability to the innings as he improved the order. Rizwan played 51 innings off 42 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes.

Tayyab Tahir gave the much-needed end to the innings and played 35* runs off 22 balls. He smashed 4 fours and 2 sixes during his stay at the crease and scored runs at a strike rate of close to 160.

The Quetta Gladiators struggled from the start, losing opener Jason Roy for just 12 runs. After being awarded a lifeline, Saud Shakeel and Khawaja Nafay added 26 runs before being dismissed for 24 runs by David Willey. Nafay was dismissed by Mohammad Ali after he had scored 36 runs in 31 balls. Sherfane Rutherford was caught and bowled to Willey for 21 runs. The Gladiators lost six wickets for 134 runs and needed 45 runs to win in the last 3 overs.

The drop in wickets continued as Mohammad Wasim Jr was dismissed for 1, while Mohammad Amir and Abrar Ahmed scored 12 runs each. Quetta Gladiators could only score 167/9 and handed a 13-run victory to the Multan Sultans.

Mohammad Ali was the star of the show for the Multan Sultans and picked up a 3-wicket haul and was also named Player of the Match.

This was the Gladiators’ first loss in the tournament and they are currently in second place with three wins and six points. Multan tops the table with his fourth win in the fifth game and 8 points.

Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans have been brilliant in PSL 2024 so far and have shown brilliant cricket. On the other hand, defending champions Lahore Qalandars sit at the bottom of the table with four losses in four games. The team’s bowling has been pathetic in the tournament so far and the Shaheen Shah Afridi-led team is missing Rashid Khan.
