Team India is currently in Sri Lanka for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against the hosts. The Men in Blue are scheduled to play three T20Is and as many ODIs against the islanders.

The T20I series will mark the start of India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2024. The series is scheduled to begin on July 27. All three T20Is will be played at Pallekele. On the other hand, the entire ODI series will be played in Colombo starting from August 2.

The Indian team arrived in Sri Lanka on Monday (July 22) and began their preparation for the series the next day. And during one such training session, a hilarious incident involving Shubman Gill took place. In a video that is going viral on social media, the star opener can be heard making a hilarious comment after completing a throwing task.

Shubman Gill could be seen catching the ball before throwing it in. He appeared to hit the target with the ball before hilariously telling his teammate Mohammed Siraj: “This is the liver.

Shubman Gill enters the leadership group:

The upcoming series marks the beginning of a very important phase for Shubman Gill’s international career. This is the series that has firmly established him in the leadership group of the Indian team. While the young batsman had led the Indian team during the tour of Zimbabwe earlier this month, not many expected him to get a leadership role in the full-fledged team.

However, the selectors and team management have made it clear that they see Shubman Gill as a future captain. He has been named vice-captain of both white-ball teams ahead of the likes of Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.

Shubman Gill will look to draw on the experience of captains Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma and hone his leadership skills. He is already an established member of the ODI and Test squad and will also look to cement his place in the T20I squad.

The upcoming series will also mark the beginning of the tenures of Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir as T20I captain and head coach respectively. Earlier this month, Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid as head coach while Suryakumar replaced Rohit Sharma as T20I captain.
