Virat Kohli Drs controversy

Indian national cricket team batsman Virat Kohli was at the centre of massive controversy during the ongoing second ODI against Sri Lanka national cricket team. The decision of the virtual series between the teams is underway at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Virat Kohli did not have a great performance with the bat in the ongoing game against Sri Lanka. The batsman started off quite well with the bat as he hit some glorious boundaries and looked like he would take the team home and play the special innings as he had not made a mark in the first game.

But that was not the case as Virat Kohli failed to set the stage alight once again after getting off to a good start. The batsman had a short stay at the crease, which was also marred by the huge controversy and saw the tempers of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team players getting heated up.

On the last ball of the 15th over, Akila Dananjaya bowled an off-break that went outside the off and turned in to beat Virat Kohli’s inside edge. The batsman tried to poke it towards the leg side with his back foot. It was well inside the crease and the ball turned a lot to hit the batsman on the pads.

The umpire immediately raised his finger but Virat Kohli was quick to use DRS. The ultra edge showed a spike when the ball was close to the bat. There was enough evidence for TV umpire Wilson to overturn the decision made on the field. But the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team players were furious with the umpire’s decision.

Kusal Mendis took off his helmet and threw it on the ground in disappointment. Captain Charith Asalanka was left dejected as he was seen fighting with umpire Raveendra Wimalasiri, arguing with the official over the third umpire’s decision.

Even head coach Sanath Jayasuriya did not seem happy and came out of the dressing room to have a conversation with the substitute umpire. Sri Lankan players were not surprised by the decision, but were shocked.

Here is the video:

Even before the advent of UltraEdge, there was a slight deviation when the ball was passing the bat and then the technology would show the edge. The reaction of the Sri Lankan players was quite expected as even Virat Kohli was not sure about the edge.

Virat Kohli fails to make an impact with the bat in the second ODI

Fortunately, the umpire’s decision did not cost Sri Lanka much as Jeffrey Vandersay dismissed Virat Kohli. The wrist bowler bowled a flipper which the batsman leaned forward to defend but missed completely.

The Impact was in front of the middle stump and the ball would have crashed into the leg stump at least. The batsman scored 14 runs off 19 balls and hit 2 fours in his innings. With his wicket, India were left reeling at 123/4.
