Nepal captain Rohit Paudel had a heated altercation with Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Sakib today during the Group D match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
This was a must-win match between Nepal and Bangladesh in what was their last group stage match which took place at the Arnos Vale Stadium. All Group D matches have come to an end and only two group matches remain to be played in the T20 World Cup. New Zealand will face Papua New Guinea in Trinidad in today’s remaining two matches.
In the final match of the group stage, co-hosts West Indies will go head-to-head against Afghanistan at the Darren Sammy Stadium in Saint Lucia. With the Super 8 seeds already decided, this particular match will decide which team will finish on top of Group C as both teams are currently undefeated in the tournament.
Tanzim Sakib caught staring at Rohit Paudel
Before the winners of Group C are known, an altercation between Nepal captain Rohit Paudel and Bangladesh’s aggressive pacer Tanzim Sakib is making headlines. Both played this match to close the group stage in style. And for that reason, both teams did everything possible to achieve victory.

In the second innings of the match during Nepal’s 107-run chase, things took a heated turn between Rohit Paudel and Tanzim Sakib. The 3rd over had just finished and the umpire had instructed the players to change ends. That’s when things broke out between Rohit and Sakib.
Tanzim Sakib, who has a bowling average of 10 in this T20 World Cup, was seen looking at the Nepal captain, who seemed oblivious at first. The Bangladeshi pacer continued to advance towards Rohit Paudel instead of following the umpire’s call. Sakib was in absolute beast mode during the heated exchange and was also heard saying “What happened?” to Paudel.
The time came when Tanzim Sakib and Rohit Paudel came face to face and started pointing fingers at each other. It was about to reach boiling point when the on-field referee interrupted them and dismissed them both from the discussion.
It was only the second time both teams had faced each other in an ICC T20 World Cup and it was nothing short of pure entertainment. During their previous meeting 10 years ago in the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, Nepal had lost by 8 wickets but there was no such argument.

After the altercation between Rohit Paudel and Tanzim Sakib, the latter had the last laugh. The right-arm seamer had an eventful evening as he even managed a sensational 4-wicket haul at an excellent economy rate of just 1.75. He first claimed the wicket of opener Kushal Bhurtel before catching bigwig Paudel for just 1 for 6.
Tanzim Sakib’s last two wickets were from Anil Kumar Sah and Sundeep Jora. The remaining wickets were taken by Mustafizur Rahman (3), Shakib Al Hasan (2) and Taskin Ahmed (1) and the Bangladeshis won by 21 runs.
