Venkatesh Iyer had a good start in the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL)). The left-handed batsman enjoyed his most prolific season with the bat in the tournament.
He scored 404 runs with the help of two half-centuries and his first IPL century. The left-hander would have liked to start his campaign well in the ongoing IPL 2024, but he couldn’t do so. In the first match of the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens, he was out for just 7.
However, it hasn’t taken long for Venkatesh Iyer to recover from the failure. In his second outing, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the all-rounder seemed to have a good touch and hit the longest six of the ongoing tournament so far.
He got into the groove by hitting Mayank Dagar for a six in the ninth over and it was a monster knock. On the fourth ball of the over, he danced down the track to get close to delivering the ball before hitting it to deep mid-wicket. The ball traveled a distance of 106 meters.
Venkatesh Iyer didn’t look back after that. In the 11th over, he hit Alzarri Joseph for two sixes and as many fours. At the time of writing this report, he was hitting 40 off 23 balls. Apart from hitting three sixes, he has also hit three fours so far.
