Shubman Gill-Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaisal scored 12 runs off five balls in the fifth and final T20I against Zimbabwe. He fell in the first over, but not before breaking a record. India won the final match by 42 runs. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 125 runs and chased down 168 to win. India completed a 4-1 series win.

Jaiswal scored six runs off Sikandar Raza’s first ball, which was a no-ball. He also hit a six off the no-ball and in the process became the first Indian and second batsman overall in the world after Ivan Selemani to hit two sixes off the first two balls of a T20I match. He also became the first player to score 12 runs off the first legal delivery in the history of men’s T20I as India were 13/0 after the first ball.

Raza eventually dismissed him in the same over of the match. However, his dismissal did not deter the Indian batsmen, who scored 167 in 20 overs batting first.

Sanju Samson scored his second T20I fifty by scoring 58 off 45 balls with four sixes. Contributions from Riyan Parag (22) and Shivam Dube (26) helped India reach that score. India hit as many as 11 sixes during their innings compared to just three for Zimbabwe. In the end, that made the difference as India won the match by 42 runs, which is equivalent to seven sixes.

It was another emphatic win for the Indian team, with their bowlers rising to the occasion. After a clinical performance with the bat, Mukesh Kumar took four wickets with the ball to derail Zimbabwe’s chase. Tushar Deshpande, Abhishek Sharma and Washington Sundar took one each, while Shivam Dube took two.

Shubman Gill, the Indian captain, finished with 170 runs in the series, and Washington Sundar with 8 wickets in five matches at an average of just 11.62. He was the most consistent of the Indian bowlers. The batsmen, each of them, took a step forward in different matches.

It was Shubman Gill’s first T20I series win as India captain. He was happy at the end of the match and praised his teammates for their efforts throughout the five-match series.

On the other hand, Sikandar Raza was disappointed. In his post-match interaction, he spoke about a shoulder injury that he is currently dealing with. He also spoke about his workload and his need to play four-day cricket to regain his fitness.

India will play a white-ball series against Sri Lanka starting later this month. That will be the first task for new India head coach Gautam Gambhir.
