Akash Deep is gradually becoming a nightmare for Shadman Islam as the Bangladesh opener has become the Indian pacer’s bunny in both innings in the ongoing second and final Test between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
After dismissing Islam for 24 runs off 36 balls in the first innings, Akash struck again and sent the well-established Bangladesh opener back to the pavilion in the second innings of Day 5 at Green Park.
Shadman Islam falls to Akash Deep for the second time in the Kanpur Test as Yashasvi Jaiswal takes a good catch
However, much more credit for this big wicket must go to Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is now turning out to be one of the safest fielders in the team. Shadman, who looked comfortable with a solid 50 off 101 balls, was the victim of a strong delivery from Akash that cost Bangladesh dearly in the ongoing match against India in Kanpur.
It was a loose shot by Shadman that caused his downfall. Akash bowled a ball a little fuller than a good length, just outside off stump. Tempted by the line, Shadman attempted an expansive attack, but was unable to anticipate the subtle movement of the ball.
The shot resulted in a thick outside edge that flew into the gully, where Jaiswal showed quick reflexes to complete a low, accurate catch with both hands. It was a turning point for the Indian team.
