Watch: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s comical mistake, a la Pakistan fielder, costs Team India four runs in third IND vs SL T20I

Yashasvi Jaiswal on Tuesday (July 30) made a comical mistake in the field and cost India four precious runs during the third T20I against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

The incident took place in the seventh over when leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was bowling towards Kusal Mendis. The Indian bowler bowled a ball out of the pitch and Mendis pushed the ball towards mid-wicket. It looked like a regulation stop and not many would have expected the ball to go for a four.

However, Yashasvi Jaiswal ended up running too much and before he could correct his mistake, the ball was out of his reach and had also crossed the boundary.

As for the game, Sri Lanka has the final say. With a modest total of 138 runs, the hosts were at 86 for 1 in the 13th over. Mendis was batting on 35 runs, while Kusal Perera was unbeaten on 22.

Check out Yashasvi Jaiswal’s mistake:

Early in the game, India finished their innings at 137 for 9 after being asked to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal started hitting two quick fours but it didn’t last long and he was dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana in the second over.

In the third over, Chamindu Wickramasinghe dismissed Sanju Samson before Theekshana took over Rinku Singh in the fourth over. In the final over of the powerplay, India also lost the wicket of their captain Suryakumar Yadav and found themselves trailing 30 for 4.

Shivam Dube did not last long either as Sri Lanka reduced India to 48 for 5. Shubman Gill and Riyan Parag then came through with crucial knocks, scoring 39 and 26 respectively to take India to the 100-run mark. However, both of them departed in the 16th over with Wanindu Hasaranga dismissing them.

After his departure, Washington Sundar’s 25-run knock helped India post a total of 135+. For Sri Lanka, Theekshana was the best bowler, taking 3 wickets while Hasaranga claimed two wickets.
