Following the conclusion of the second Test, Rohit Sharma admitted during the post-match presentation that his team did not bat well enough to score enough runs.
After losing the toss and being asked to bowl first, India struggled with the bat and made just 156 runs in reply to New Zealand’s 259 in the first innings. Leading by 103 runs, New Zealand scored 255 runs in their second innings and managed to defeat India for 245 on Day 3.

In the post-match presentation, Rohit mentioned that the team did not bat well enough. He also stated that the pitch was not particularly challenging, but that the batsmen should have performed better.
“I didn’t think we batted well enough to get runs on the board. You have to pick 20 wickets to win, yes, but the batsmen have to put runs on the board. It wasn’t a release where a lot happened. We just didn’t bat well enough,” Rohit said.
India lost test series at home after 12 years
India’s loss in the second Test against New Zealand in Pune ended their impressive home series winning streak that lasted 4,331 days, with their last home defeat occurring in 2012 against England. New Zealand outplayed India throughout the series, winning the first Test by 8 wickets and the second Test by 113 runs. From the beginning of the series, India struggled to perform and found themselves on the back foot.

This series is also significant for New Zealand, who had not won a Test match against India in 36 years until they broke that record in the first Test. With their victory in the second Test, New Zealand not only won the series but also achieved the remarkable feat of winning a Test series in India for the first time.
India’s chances of reaching the final of the World Test Championship are at risk. They need to win the third Test of the series, which will be held in Mumbai.
