Highlights from India vs Bangladesh 3rd T20I
Bangladesh lost the toss and were invited to bowl first. The visiting team’s bowlers were not prepared for what was about to happen as they were absolutely annihilated by the Indian batting unit.
No Bangladesh bowler could trouble Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag as the hosts posted a historic total of 297 runs.
Samson (111) and Suryakumar (75) did most of the destruction with their outstanding stand of 173 runs, while the rest of the damage was done by Hardik (47) and Parag (34), who added 70 runs together.
Every Bangladesh bowler leaked runs with an economy of over 11 and Tanzim Hasan Sakib was the leading wicket-taker as he dismissed three batsmen.
Chasing the target, the Bangladesh batsmen looked miserable and did not give themselves a chance to even surpass the score of 200. Only two batsmen batted with a strike rate of 150 or more as the Bangladesh Tigers were restricted to 164/7 .
Towhid Hridoy scored 63 runs and remained unbeaten while Litton Das scored 42 runs. However, apart from the duo, neither batsman could get going and they lost the match by 133 runs.
We did not execute our plans as a batting group in the three matches – said Najmul Hossain Shanto after the match
Speaking after the match, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto admitted that they did not execute their plans well in the batting department and in bowling they did well only a few times. Najmul Hossain Shanto said:
“We didn’t play our best cricket. We didn’t execute our plans as a batting group in the three matches. Bowling-wise, in a couple of overs we bowled well in some of the matches. Today all the players didn’t bowl well. “
Najmul Hossain Shanto also tried to motivate his teammates, saying that they must believe in themselves and highlighted the need for better fields in Bangladesh. He also highlighted some positive aspects of the series. Najmul Hossain Shanto said:
“It is very important that we believe in ourselves that we can compete against any team. We have to change a lot of things, especially the pitch. The players have to take responsibility. (Positive aspects) The way Hridoy batted today was impressive. “It really was , like all closers, tried to execute their plans. “The top-order batsmen need to improve a lot.”
How did Bangladesh perform in the previous T20I against India?
Bangladesh players had a tough outing in the second T20I, conceding 221 runs. Taskin Ahmed was the standout performer as he bowled an economical spell in which he conceded just 16 runs and picked up two wickets.
Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman also contributed 2 wickets but gave away 36 runs in his 4 overs. Tanzim Hasan Sakib struggled to contain the Indian batsmen, losing 50 runs in his full quota, despite claiming 2 wickets. Rishad Hossain had a similar story, conceding 55 runs and picking up 3 wickets. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, meanwhile, scored 46 runs in just 3 overs.
Chasing a huge target of 222, the Bangladesh batting line-up faltered under pressure. Parvez Hossain Emon (16 off 12) and Litton Das (14 off 11) started positively but could not capitalize on the starts they got.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (11 for 7) and Towhid Hridoy (2 for 6) failed to make an impact, leaving Bangladesh in trouble from the start.
Mahmudullah gave some hope with a valiant 41 off 39, hitting three sixes, but lacked support at the other end. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (16 off 16) and the rest of the lower order could not turn the tide as wickets continued to fall. In the end, Bangladesh were restricted to 135/9, losing by 86 runs.
