Furthermore, he spoke about how Kohli and Rohit must feel after the 2023 final loss to Australia. Villiers himself faced the same situation when South Africa lost to the Kiwis in the 2015 semi-final and therefore found it very relatable.
“When we lost in the semi-final in 2015, I don’t remember the next few months being a blur. I just didn’t want to know cricket and I just wanted to put away my equipment. What works for Virat and Rohit is that they haven’t won a Test series in South Africa. For them, this is a great opportunity. “We had the opportunity to win an ODI series in India just a few months after the 2015 World Cup and I was incredibly motivated because I thought this was the chance to show that we were still the best team in the world.” De Villiers said.
Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will return for the two-match Test series against South Africa. The test series will be part of the WTC 2023-25 cycle. The first test begins on December 26 in Centurion. Cape Town hosts the second test from January 3 to 7, 2024.
