Tanzid Hasan, on Thursday (June 13), avoided a serious facial injury during the ongoing match between Bangladesh and Netherlands at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St. Vincent.
The incident took place in the third over when the Bangladesh batsman was facing Vivian Kingma. The left-handed batsman started the over on a good note by hitting Kingma for a four and a six in the first three balls. It was followed by a double before he was almost hit in the face.
On the fifth ball of the over, Kingma bowled a short delivery and Tanzid Hasan had absolutely no space to hit the pull shot. The ball rose sharply and Tanzid Hasan was beaten by it as he was a little late in his shot. He ended up putting the ball in the visor.
Fortunately for the Bangladesh batsman, the ball got stuck in the visor and he did not suffer any serious injury. He had to undergo mandatory concussion testing and was cleared to continue hitting.
Watch Tanzid Hasan take the nasty hit:
Talking about the game, Bangladesh were 71 for 3 in the ninth over at the time of writing this report. Towhid Hridoy and Shakib Al Hasan were batting in the middle order for the Bangla Tigers. Asked to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a poor start as captain Najmul Hossain Shant and Litton Das were dismissed for one run each.
Tanzid Hasan and Shakib then steadied the ship with a 48-run stand before the former was dismissed for 35 runs. Both Bangladesh and Netherlands have a win each in their first two games and a win in the ongoing game will put them in the driving seat for a spot in the Super 8s. South Africa have already booked their place in the next round of Group D and Bangladesh and the Netherlands compete for second place.
