West Indies star Chinelle Henry took a direct hit to the face during the semi-final match against New Zealand in Sharjah.

The incident occurred during New Zealand’s 12th innings. Deandra Dottin was the bowler and Amelia Kerr’s aerial shot went straight to the long spot where Henry was stationed.

As she tried to catch it, the ball slipped out of her hands and hit her in the face. Henry fell immediately and medical staff and players rushed to his aid. In terrifying scenes, Henry was seen lying on the ground with medical staff tending to her.

She was taken off the field as soon as play resumed in Sharjah. An update on his injury is awaited.

In the match, New Zealand opted to bat first and the openers were solid. West Indies fought their way back into the game with wickets at middle.

The West Indies played the final once in 2016 and then won the title. New Zealand were runners-up in the first two editions of the Women’s T20 World Cup, but finished second on both occasions.

In the first semi-final, South Africa stunned six-time champions Australia to reach their second final in as many years.
