Indian national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma slammed critics and said the team would have been heavily criticized for becoming ultra-aggressive against Bangladesh if the result had not been in their favour.
India completely thrashed the Bangla Tigers in the second Test at the Green Park stadium in Kanpur. At one point, it looked like the game was heading toward a draw after two and a half days abandoned due to rain, wet outfields and poor light.
India forced the result in the second test
The Rohit Sharma-led team, however, had other plans as they quickly bowled out Bangladesh for 233 on Day 4 and then played an absolutely attacking brand of cricket.
India’s batting was so dominant that they created the world record for scoring 50s, 100s, 150s, 200s and 250s in Test cricket. On the same day, India declared 285/9 in 34.4 overs and invited Bangladesh to bat again.
India ended up dismissing two Bangladesh batsmen on the fourth day and on the fifth day, they bowled out the team for 146, setting a target of 95 runs for them, which they chased with 7 wickets in hand.
Meanwhile, India captain Rohit Sharma described the true definition of aggression for him in a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He said:
“I think for me, aggression is about your actions. It’s not about my reactions. The kind of batting we do, the kind of fielding we do, the kind of bowling we do, that for me is assault”.
This would not have been possible without… – Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma further denied taking credit for the success and said that without the contributions of the rest of the 10 players and the support staff, the victory would not have been possible. Rohit Sharma explained:
“Look, I think without the help of the other 10 players and obviously also the people sitting in the locker room, this would not have been possible. When we lost 2 days, 2 and a half days actually, it’s very easy for everyone. move away from the goal we had of winning this test match.
“But I thought when we came here on the fourth day in the morning, first things first, they were batting and we needed to get them out. We needed 7 wickets quickly, so I thought it all started there. You know, the bowlers came. “First They arrived at the party. “They got the wickets we needed and then when we came in we had to take a bit of risk to get a result.”
I know the result could have gone either way, but it felt right to me – Rohit Sharma
With India playing aggressive cricket, there was always a chance that the match would tilt in favor of Bangladesh, who came into the series after defeating Pakistan.
Rohit Sharma was fully aware of this and revealed that India was willing to take the risk of forcing the result. The Indian captain also criticized the critics and said that they would have criticized the team if things had not gone well.
“I know the result could have gone either way, but I was okay with that. So were the coach and the other players because you have to be brave enough to make those decisions and play that way. When things fall apart , everything looks good and that’s where it can change quickly when things don’t add up,” said Rohit Sharma.
“Everyone would have started criticizing the decision we made and all that. But what matters is what we think within this locker room and that is what matters and that is what we followed in this game. It was a clear plan that we had “I want the result, how can we get the result. Everyone started finding answers for that. I think it was an exceptional series,” Rohit Sharma added.
