Mumbai Indians (MI) have retained five international players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction and have focused on maintaining the core.
Mumbai Indians (MI) had the strongest Indian core in the previous cycle; Even the non-international players were full of quality. They were the only team that could form a winning eleven with only Indian players.
Therefore, the mega auction was always going to be tough for them as they had more than five quality players in the limited category and several in the non-limited section. But they have done well to retain their big boys ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Why can’t Mumbai Indians use RTM in limited retentions?
Mumbai Indians have retained as many as five international players, and the rules state that no team can retain more than five international players. Although the total number of withholdings allowed is six, the sixth should be uncapped.
MI has already retained five international players, leaving no room for other international retentions. However, MI still has an RTM to use on one of their uncapped players.
They had some top-notch players with no limits and had to be cautious with their selection. Most of them performed well in limited opportunities and the task will not be easy for the five-time champions.
Who will Mumbai Indians use RTM on in IPL 2025 auction?
Mumbai Indians have three top options in the uncapped category – Nehal Wadhera, Naman Dhir and Akash Madhwal. Nehal is a solid pace and spin player and a solid middle-order player.
It also provides a different dimension to the batting unit as it is an LHB. Furthermore, it will be a long-term investment.
Naman Dhir is a batsman who can be flexible with his batting position and bat anywhere in the middle order. He can bat from the first ball and bat at a high pace, as seen during the last season.
Meanwhile, Akash Madhwal is a quick pacer who can get the ball out of the ground. He has the pace and can rush batsmen, while his control over yorkers is remarkable.
A lot will depend on how their price goes during the auction, as they will be in demand after their previous success in the league. However, MI will surely use RTM on at least one of them depending on their needs during the auction.
