KKR will have INR 51 crore available for the IPL 2025 auction, instead of the initially expected INR 63 crore.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have officially announced their list of retained players for the IPL 2025 season, releasing the list on deadline.
The franchise has opted to retain six players: Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh and Harshit Rana. This choice reflects their strategy to maintain a strong core team.
Rinku Singh is the top retainer for INR 13 crore, followed by Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine, each retained for INR 12 crore. Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh, both uncapped players, have been retained for INR 4 crore each.
With these six retentions, Kolkata Knight Riders has spent a total of Rs 57 million (Rs 13 million + Rs 12 million + Rs 12 million + Rs 12 million + Rs 4 million + Rs 4 million) from the 120 crore purse allocated for each IPL team. While basic calculations suggest that KKR would have INR 63 crore left, they will actually enter the auction with INR 51 crore due to IPL rules.

Why KKR has Rs 12 crore less in its purse for IPL 2025 auction
As per IPL rules, the total holding value for four limited-overs players must be at least INR 61 crore (18 + 14 + 11 + 18). While teams have the flexibility to distribute this amount however they wish, the overall total must still meet the minimum requirement. As a result, although Kolkata Knight Riders spent INR 49 crore on their 4 limited-over players, they will still face a deduction of INR 61 crore from their limited-overs.
Additionally, INR 8 crore will be deducted for his two uncapped holds as each uncapped player can be held for INR 4 crore, taking the total deductions to INR 69 crore. Consequently, KKR will have INR 51 crore available for the IPL 2025 auction, instead of the initially expected INR 63 crore. This means that they will lose INR 12 crores that they never paid to their players and they will also not receive that amount in the auction.
KKR will not have RTM for IPL 2025 auction
As per IPL rules, Kolkata Knight Riders cannot use a Right to Match (RTM) card because they have already retained the maximum number of six players.
