The hitter of India Shreyas Iyer is part of the west zone team for the DUEEP 2025 trophy tournament, but has not been appointed captain on the side.
The all -terrain Shardul Thakur will lead the west zone team, which also presents other Indian stars such as Yashavi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Why Shreyas Iyer was not given the captaincy of the west zone
According to a report in the Indian Express, the reason why Shreyas Iyer has not been appointed captain of the west is due to the selection committee that he feels would be chosen in the Indian team for the Asia 2025 Cup.
The DUEEP trophy is scheduled to start on August 28 with two quarterfinals, which will be followed by the semifinals and the final. The final is scheduled to take place on September 15 and all matches will take place in Bangalore.
Asia Cup to start on September 9
The Asia Cup, in hand, is scheduled to start on September 9 and will continue until September 28. India is in Group A together with the Archrival Pakistan, Oman and United Arab Emirates (EAU).
Mumbai’s Cricket player had previously expressed his preparation to play the DUEEP trophy. Iyer did a test for the last time for India in February 2024 against England. Although it has fallen out of the tests and T20i, Iyer has been a pillar in Odi.
The right -hand batter played a crucial role in the successful 2025 ICC champions trophy campaign of India. The tournament ended as the best scorer in India, and the second best in general, with 243 races of five games, including two half centuries. Iyer then went to Punjab Kings (PBK) to the final of IPL 2025, where they lost to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
The Asia 2025 Cup will be played in T20 format, since the tournament will act as a 2026 T20 World Cup preparation. Iyer played a T20i for India for the last time in December 2023 against Australia in Bengaluru.

The DUEEP trophy will be the first game of the National Indian season for the 2025-26 season. The Ranji trophy, on the other hand, will begin since October 15. The first phase of the Ranji trophy will continue until November 19, while the second phase will take place from January 22 to February 1 of next year.
