The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has provided an important update on the future of head coach Chandika Hathurusingha. The board official confirmed that the former Sri Lankan player will stay with the team and will soon arrive in Bangladesh to help the team ahead of the India Tests.

Bangladesh national cricket team head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has come under fire recently. This came after Faruque Ahmed took over as the BCB president and since then, there have been many changes in the cricket board.

Due to changes in the government, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has undergone major changes and there has been a lot of speculation about the future of Chandika Hathurusinghe. In recent years, Faruque Ahmed has been very critical of the head coach and now that he is at the helm of the board, the coach’s future seems to be in jeopardy.

Chandika Hathurusinghe was reported to hold talks with BCB after the Test series against Pakistan. However, she left the next day for Sri Lanka without meeting the new chairman of the board, Faruque Ahmed.

The head coach will come and be here in Bangladesh – Nazmul Abedin on Chandika Hathurusingha

With so many rumours surrounding Chandika Hathurusingha’s future, BCB director Nazmul Abedin rubbished all the rumours. He said that the team’s head coach would join soon and help the team. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he explained:

“The head coach will come and be here in Bangladesh (and guide the team against India).”

BCB chief Nazmul Abedin also confirmed that Shakib Al Hasan, accused in the murder case, will play in the Test series against India. He said that the all-rounder will play in County Cricket and after that, he will join the team. He added:

“Shakib will be coming to India from England to play. For now, that is what we know and we want to keep it that way. There is no injury problem as far as I know. Hopefully, the entire squad will be available. Shakib has gone to play for County and I hope everyone else will be available. From September 9, the entire squad is expected to be in full training.”

I think India is a bit stronger compared to Bangladesh – BCB Director Nazmul Abedin

BCB chief Nazmul Abedin also spoke about the upcoming Test series against the Indian national cricket team and admitted that the opposition is stronger than them. He said that if they handle the pressure well, they can win. He explained:

“I think India is a bit stronger compared to Bangladesh. So, if we can play with the mentality we had against Pakistan, if we can maintain it consistently, it will be a challenge for us. The pressure we were able to apply against Pakistan may not be as easy against India. There we have to be more consistent and show more patience. But self-belief is very important.

“If we can handle it, we have the ability to do well. Especially the power I saw in our bowling. If we can harness that, then we have a good chance. We will dominate more than ever,” he concluded.

The Test series between India and Bangladesh will begin on September 19. The teams will be high on confidence as they beat Pakistan 2-0 in the recent Tests.
