Will underperforming Sanju Samson be dropped for the third IND vs BAN T20I? India coach reveals

Sanju Samson has been under pressure once again after failing to score big goals in the first two games of the ongoing three-match T20I series between India and Bangladesh.

The new management of the Indian team has made it clear that it will not shy away from giving the wicketkeeper-batsman a long run in the team. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman has failed to really justify the decision so far.

He played in two of the three T20Is that India played against Sri Lanka in July. In both matches, Sanju Samson was offside. Even after these two failures, he was not only called up for the ongoing series but also got a chance in the playing eleven for the first two matches.

However, the Kerala star has failed to capitalize on the opportunities. In both games he showed positive intentions, but failed to score big goals. In the series opener, Sanju Samson was out for 29 runs as the team chased 128 runs. In the second game, he hit two boundaries in the first over but departed in the second over after scoring 10 runs.

Will Sanju Samson be eliminated?

With Sanju Samson failing in four games in a row, there have been calls from various quarters to drop him from the team and give a chance to other players like Jitesh Sharma. However, India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has hinted that the under-pressure batsman is also likely to play the third T20I.

In the pre-match press conference, ten Doeschate said that although Sanju Samson has not scored great goals, his intention has been correct. He said Samson could have gone for the easier option of taking his time and scoring a fifty in the first T20I, but he opted for the aggressive approach.

“100%, I think it shows in the way the game is played (the aggressive, all-out nature). You know, the Test match in Kanpur is a great example. “We are trying to push the limits of what we can do as a team. team,” said ten Doeschate.

“They obviously have the quality to do it. Then it’s about giving the players the confidence to do it in a safe space to know that if it’s not going to turn out well, that’s okay too.”

“Even if you look back at the first two games, someone like Sanju, you know, got off to a fast start in the first game in Gwalior. It would have been easy for him to win it and get fifty. But he can’t see he’s trying exceed the limit. “He knows the state of the game and the messages have been pretty consistent with that.”

“We want the boys to expand their own games. We want to advance cricket as it goes with the times and we want to be prepared for the big critical moments that lie ahead in the next 18 months,” he added.

Meanwhile, the third T20I India vs Bangladesh is scheduled to be played on Saturday (October 12). India has already sealed the series by winning the first two games and will look to win the third as well.
