New Zealand Test captain Tim Southee hit the field at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka after winning the second Test to level the series. Bangladesh. Bangladesh won the first Test by 150 runs and the Kiwis bounced back in style to win the second Test.

New Zealand needed 137 to win in the second innings and the Bangladesh spinners tried to make their job as difficult as possible. Standing in his way was Glenn Phillips, who scored an unbeaten 40 off 48 balls and, along with Mitchell Santner (35 off 39), added an unbeaten 70 runs to lead the Kiwis to victory. New Zealand were 69/6 when Santner joined Phillips. The right-hander scored a valuable 87 off 72 balls in the first innings and also took three wickets.

Speaking after the match at the post-match press conference, Tim Southee said that Dhaka’s wicket was the “worst” he had seen in his career.

“It’s probably the worst terrain I’ve ever encountered in my career. The balance between bat and ball was greatly favored in the hands of the bowler. I think the fact that the match ended in 170 overs reflects that. So for our guys to fight and then come out with the win was a great pleasure.” Southee said.

It was a tough Test match: New Zealand Test captain Tim Southee

He further described the second game as a “tough” Test match in which it was difficult to get runs.

“I think it was just a tough test match. It was obviously difficult terrain. It was difficult to get runs, and those little moments and partnerships were crucial, whereas in other games, I suppose when the conditions are a little more balanced between bat and ball, it doesn’t show as much.” Southee said more.

Bangladesh will now tour New Zealand for a white-ball series of three ODIs and three T20Is starting December 17. Phillips, for his superlative batting effort, was named Player of the Match. Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam was named Man of the Series for his 15 wickets in the two-match series.
