Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Uttar Pradesh left-arm spinner Yash Dayal has received his first call-up for the first Test of the two-match series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team at home.

Yash Dayal has been one of the most talented fast bowlers in the Indian circuit and has delivered some amazing performances over the years. His left-arm variety played a role in getting him called up for the match against Bangladesh as the Indian team management is reportedly keen on having a left-arm fast bowler in the squad for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Reports that surfaced a few weeks ago suggested that Yash Dayal, Khaleel Ahmed and Arshdeep Singh, who has emerged as a star player for the Indian T20I team, were in contention to be selected for the Indian Test squad.

And now, it looks like Yash Dayal has won that race. If picked for the starting XI in the first Test against Bangladesh, Dayal will be looking for a big performance to cement his place in the team as India gear up for a big Test season ahead.

In total, Yash Dayal has played in 24 first-class matches and has taken 76 wickets at an average of 28.89, an economy of 2.98 and a strike rate of 58.0. He recently played for India B in the match against India A in the Duleep Trophy and returned with bowling figures of 1/39 and 3/50 in the two innings.

Apart from Yash Dayal, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors have picked Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep as the team’s pacers along with the spin quartet of Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja.

One thing to note here is that this is not Yash Dayal’s first call-up for India but India’s first call-up for a Test. He was earlier selected in India’s 2022 squad for the three-match away ODI series against Bangladesh but was forced to miss the matches due to a lower back problem and was replaced by Madhya Pradesh fast bowler Kuldeep Sen in the squad.
