Yashasvi Jaiswal earned a place in the Indian team after an impressive performance in the 2023 Indian Premier League, where he scored 625 runs in 14 matches with a remarkable strike rate of 163.61. Jaiswal made his T20I debut in August during the West Indies tour.
Yashasvi Jaiswal could be India’s man – Sanjay Manjrekar
Speaking on Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar suggested that India could field a competitive T20I team. Manjrekar emphasized that Sanjay Jaiswal occupies a pivotal position in the batting line-up if India intends to change its approach in T20Is.
“India can field another T20I team that can compete against other international teams and that is basically what IPL has done. If India is looking to reinvent its approach, Yashasvi Jaiswal could be the right man. He can do what Rohit Sharma did in the 2023 ODI World Cup for India,” Manjrekar said.
The 21-year-old scored 370 runs in 13 T20I matches at an average of 33.63 and a strike rate of 163.71. He reached a century and two and a half centuries in his brief career. He scored 138 runs in five innings against Australia in a recent series, at a strike rate of 168.29.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has the freshness – Sunil Gavaskar
Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar echoed Sanjay Manjrekar’s statement and expressed confidence in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s long-term potential for India across all formats.
“The way he started against Jofra Archer in the IPL was impressive. She is a very, very good talent. Jaiswal also contributes the left foot in the top order. He has the freshness of not being bound by experience. He sees the ball and hits it. Jaiswal is an all-format prospect for India,” Gavaskar said.
Yashasvi Jaiswal played a pivotal role in India’s victory at the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games, scoring a remarkable century off just 49 deliveries in the quarterfinals against Nepal. He scored 171 runs in his first Test innings during the West Indies tour.
