Yashasvi Jaiswal is the next superstar of all 3 formats – Michael Vaughan

Yashasvi Jaiswal could well become the next superstar of world cricket in all three formats, thinks former England captain Michael Vaughan after seeing his third century of innings against England in the third of a five-match Test series at the Niranjan Stadium Shah of Rajkot. Vaughan made this comment while he was talking to Dinesh Karthik in a Cricbuzz segment.

Host Dinesh Karthik started the segment by praising Yashasvi Jaiswal and stating that he has done exceptionally well in all formats even if he is yet to make his ODI debut for India. There is no doubt about her class, form and mentality in both the longer and shorter formats, something that has helped cement her position in the Indian team.

The 22-year-old UP-born batsman has displayed exceptional batting prowess since he burst into the Indian Premier League for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 season. His breakout year came just last year in 2023 when he scored 625 runs with a average of 48.08, including one century and five half-centuries.

Yashasvi Jaiswal also broke the record for fastest-ball fifty last year, surpassing KL Rahul’s 14-ball fifty with a 13-ball fifty against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Following his sensational 2023 season, the Indian management gave him a lead during India’s tour of the West Indies for a T20I and Test series.

He announced himself on the world stage by scoring 171 in his debut innings before scoring 57 in his second Test match. And after a poor tour of South Africa, Yashasvi Jaiswal shone in his first home Test series against England and has already scored 2 triple-digit scores.

He made a good start in the series by amassing 80 runs in the Hyderabad Test and then converted it into a double hundred in the Vishakhapatnam Test. At the moment, he is closing in on another double century and that has elicited positive reactions not only from his captain/head coach but also from former England captain Michael Vaughan.

“He has plenty of time to deal with fast bowling”, Vaughan highlights the true quality of Yashasvi Jaiswal

After Dinesh Karthik bowled the ball into Michael Vaughan’s court, the Englishman highlighted Yashavi Jaiswal’s impeccable ability to deal with fast bowlers and stated that her balance is the key. Vaughan also explained the high elevation of the bat that helps him hit shots with confidence.

“I think he (Yashasvi Jaiswal) is the next superstar in all 3 formats. I just think he has that beautiful gift of balance, a lot of time to face fast bowling, a wonderful lift of the bat and a wonderful willow through the ball.” – said Michael Vaughan via Cricbuzz.

“I thought today’s innings were spectacular as both he and Shubman Gill calmed things down and played pace right from the start. I think he made 8 off 50 deliveries and suddenly he starts finding boundaries and then he starts getting into his T20 mode when he realizes that India are driving the game and then it is all because of the Jasball effect.” – Vaughan added.

“He’s a wonderful player, he really is, he’s a pleasure to watch and I suppose the challenge for him will be when the ball starts turning in England, can he do it there?” – Vaughan concluded.
