Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar criticized the ICC after the match between India and Canada in the ongoing T20 World Cup was called off without a ball being bowled.
The game was scheduled to be played at the Turf Ground stadium at Central Broward Regional Park, Lauderhill, Florida. Although there was not much rain in the region on the day of the game, the game had to be suspended because the outfield was wet. The gardens were left in an unusable condition due to the rain received by the region earlier this week, including on Friday (June 14).
Even though the rain stayed away on Saturday, no action between India and Canada was possible as the umpires deemed the outfield unplayable. This is Lauderhill’s third abandoned match in as many games in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Earlier this week, the Sri Lanka vs Nepal and USA vs Ireland matches were also abandoned.
The defeat proved very costly for Sri Lanka as they were eliminated from the T20 World Cup. On the other hand, the second failure eliminated Pakistan from the T20 World Cup, while the United States booked its place in the Super 8. With all three games in Florida abandoned due to unplayable conditions, Sunil Gavaskar has vented his frustration.
The former cricketer-turned-commentator said the ICC should not hold games at a venue that does not have full-field coverage.
“The ICC should not host matches where there are no covers covering the entire ground. You simply cannot cover the pitch and let the other parts of the ground get wet,” Gavaskar said after the match between India and India was abandoned. Canada.
