Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir criticized the concept of underestimating players and emphasized that nothing is truly underrated. Gambhir questioned Yuvraj Singh’s lack of recognition, despite winning the Man of the Tournament award in the 2011 World Cup.

Media attention has intensified around MS Dhoni’s iconic six-match winners that helped the team claim victory in the final. Gambhir did not receive much-deserved recognition for his stunning 97 runs against Sri Lanka, despite the challenge of losing early wickets.

Dhoni was awarded Player of the Match for his unbeaten 91 runs off 79 balls at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Indian cricket team successfully chased a target of 275 runs, securing their second title in the 50-over event with a six-wicket win against Sri Lanka.

Nothing is underrated – Gautam Gambhir

In a video shared by ANI on He highlighted the potential impact of media coverage on a player’s image.”

“When these people label something as underestimated, it is precisely those people who underestimate, underestimate, underestimate. Nothing is underestimated. Tell me, how many people are talking about a player who was the Man of the Tournament in 2011? Probably because he doesn’t have a good PR agency.

“A station can never be a public relations machine. A broadcaster must be fair to everyone who sits in that dressing room. If I have a piece of machinery and I have to choose between two people, and I show one for 2 hours and 50 minutes and the other for 10 minutes, the person with 2 hours and 50 minutes becomes a brand,” said Gambhir.

Yuvraj Singh bagged the Player of the Tournament award for his outstanding performance in India’s successful 2021 campaign. He scored 362 runs in 8 innings at an impressive average of 90.50, which included a century and four fifties. Furthermore, Yuvraj demonstrated his bowling skills by taking 15 wickets at an average of 25.13 and an economy rate of 5.03.
