In a recent development, two former Indian cricketers and Cricket World Cup winners, Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra, were involved in an awkward situation when the former asked the latter to allow him to take up the job of mentoring the Gujarat Titans, winners of the IPL. before the last edition, which is scheduled to begin in March.

Yuvraj Singh has made very few appearances in cricket matches as a coach or commentator since his retirement in June 2019, exactly a day after the Indian team defeated the 2015 CWC winners by 36 runs at the Oval. His last appearance in Indian colors was in an ODI match against the West Indies in 2017, 2 years before he announced his retirement.

It would be fair to say that he was a player who brought about a change in Indian cricket. His flair, enigma, attitude and confidence, along with a brilliant cricket brain, made him the Yuvraj Singh we know. He has been India’s vice-captain in two major ICC titles – the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and the 2011 CWC at home.

His contribution was as important as any other player in the team and the man of the tournament award at the 2011 World Cup is a fitting justification for it. But since he returned from cancer, Yuvraj was not the same as before, but given the amount of success he helped the Indian team achieve, everyone will love to forget about his inefficiency after he won the battle against the cancer.

As far as the IPL is concerned, he has been a part of two different winning teams: Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 and Mumbai Indians in 2019, which also ended up becoming his last season in the world’s richest cricket league. Unlike other former cricketers who have taken up commentary or coaching, Yuvraj is yet to take on such a role.

‘My priority is my children right now,’ says Yuvraj Singh

In a recent interview with PTI, Yuvraj Singh stated that his main focus right now is his children and their development. Yuvi is a father of a son and a daughter and is waiting until the time they start going to school to even think about training. However, even if he does, his first priority will be to help future players from Punjab, his home state, and mentor an IPL team.

“Let’s see what opportunities I have, but my priority is my children right now. Once they start school, I’ll have more time. Then I can start training. “I love working with the youngsters, especially the guys from my state, and I feel like mentoring is something I would love to do and definitely, to be a part of one of the IPL teams, I am definitely considering it.” – said Yuvraj.

“I asked Mr. Ashish Nehra but he refused,” Yuvraj Singh talks about rejecting GT mentorship

Ashish Nehra, Yuvraj Singh’s teammate in the 2011 CWC triumph, who is currently the head coach of the Gujarat Titans, apparently denied the former batting great from taking on the role of mentoring the 2022 winners. Nehra did not give no specific reason, but he is still willing to contribute to the game.

“I asked Mr. Ashish Nehra for a job but he rejected it. So let’s see where else I can get a position, but for now I have to strike a balance. So definitely in the next few years I want to contribute to cricket and help youngsters improve. “I can contribute a lot.” – concluded Yuvraj Singh.
