Indian national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma said that they were happy with the way things unfolded in the pink-ball tour match against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI as they got what they they wanted.
Rohit Sharma-led India joined Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. It was originally a 2-day pink ball game, but the first day disappeared. Hence it became a one-day match.

Rohit Sharma failed badly
India won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. They took this decision because they wanted to bat during the night against the pink ball.
The players did a good job and defeated Australia’s PM XI for 240 in the 46 overs a side contest. Then, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened once again for India, hinting that this is the team’s new inaugural pairing in Test cricket.
Notably, Rahul opened with Jaiswal in the Perth Test when Rohit skipped the match due to the birth of his second child. The Rahul-Jaiswal duo did a great job against the Australians and seeing this, the Indian captain seems to have sacrificed his top spot.
Coming back to the tour match, Rahul (27) and Jaiswal (45) batted well and along with the return of Shubman Gill (50), made the most of the match.
However, Rohit couldn’t do it as he failed badly. He came out with 11 3-balls while chasing the ball into the fifth stump. Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy (42), Washington Sundar (42) and Ravindra Jadeja (27) batted well and guided India to a 6-wicket victory.
It was fantastic – Rohit Sharma
Talking to the host after winning the trophy, Rohit Sharma said that they were unlucky as the first day was lost, but added that they made good use of the limited time they had in between.
“It was fantastic. We got what we wanted as a group. A little bit unfortunate we couldn’t get the whole game. Whatever time we had, we tried to make the most of it and got everything that was in front of us,” he said.
Rohit Sharma further expressed his joy at having a home support in Canberra as many Indian fans were present at the stadium. He said:
“Absolutely fantastic (to see the crowd). We love coming to Australia and we love seeing them come and support us. There’s never been a time where they’ve come here and haven’t turned up. “It’s really nice to see people come and support us. “
Some great players have represented this team and it has been an enjoyable few days – Jack Edwards
Jack Edwards, captain of the Prime Minister’s XI, also praised his players for doing a good job in the match and giving a solid fight to India. He said:
“He played exceptionally. Good for Scotty, he bowled some overs. Very nice honour. Some great players have represented this team and it has been an enjoyable few days for the team.”
Notably, teenage sensation Sam Konstas emerged as the Australians’ best player by bowling 97-ball 107 and winning the Player of the Match award. After winning it, he said: “It was a good experience. Thanks to the fans for coming.”
