While CSK does not usually spend much on uncapped players, they made an exception for Sameer Rizvi after he impressed in the domestic circuit.
While he is yet to debut in international cricket, that hasn’t stopped fans from comparing him to Suresh Raina, one of Uttar Pradesh’s most decorated batsmen. In fact, many fondly call Sameer Rizvi the right-handed Raina.
MS Dhoni smiles after Sameer Rizvi’s six:
Sameer Rizvi made his IPL last week during the match between CSK and RCB, but he didn’t get a chance to bat. He finally got the chance to bat on Tuesday (March 26) during the match against Gujarat Titans and was quick to announce his arrival.
The youngster was up against Rashid Khan, arguably the best T20 spinner in the world, and hit him for a big six off the first ball he faced in the IPL. It was a full delivery on the leg-spinner’s pads and Sameer Rizvi swept it hard over deep backward square leg to reach the maximum. Two balls later, the 20-year-old hit Rashid for another six.
As soon as he reached the second six, cameras moved towards the CSK dressing room where MS Dhoni was seen smiling at the youngster’s bold performance. While the former Indian captain hardly shows any emotions on the cricket field, he couldn’t help but smile at Rizvi’s performance.
