Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag

Abhishek Sharma is the name that almost all the expert analysts chose from the Cricbuzz team when they were asked to pick the best uncapped Indian of IPL 2024.

Abhishek Sharma had an excellent IPL 2024 campaign where he experienced his best season in the Indian Premier League. The left-hand batsman’s pairing with Travis Head in the Sunrisers Hyderabad top order was simply sensational. The two players showed well and truly what T20 cricket will be like in the years to come.

Despite not scoring even a half-century, Abhishek Sharma finished with 484 runs in 16 matches. Although he would have hoped to have a better performance in the playoffs, the season will be remembered for his aggressive approach regardless. The taste of the IPL 2024 title would have been sweet, but if he continues to play like he did, the title will not be far away.

Simon Doull casts Abhishek Sharma

Simon Doull was the first expert to pick his uncapped Indian player of the season in IPL 2024. He picked Abhishek Sharma as the batsman, all because of his batting prowess at the top of the order. Although Doull wanted to see Abhishek score more half-centuries, he was pleased with the 400-plus season he had at a strike rate of 200-plus.

“There are a few options, but I am going to go with Abhishek Sharma. The way he played at the top of the order, he probably would have wanted more fifties in the season, but when you are batting over 400 runs with an excessive strike rate of 200 “For me, that sets the tone. I think Abhishek Sharma’s season gives him the nod for the uncapped Indian player of the season,” Simon Doull said via Cricbuzz.

Michael Vaughan also chooses Abhishek

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also opted for Abhishek Sharma as the best Indian uncapped of the season. Vaughan mentioned Riyan Parag’s name but eventually reached an agreement with the Sunrisers opener. The former batsman felt that Abhishek and Travis Head had lit up the season with their extraordinary batting.

“I have two to mention: Riyan Parag of Rajasthan Royals. He has been very consistent, a wonderful young batsman. But I have to say, Abhishek Sharma. With over 200 for the Sunrisers, that combination with Travis Head lit up the top order. He has been a revelation,” Vaughan said.

Rohan Gavaskar and Manoj Tiwary praise Abhishek Sharma’s fearless batting

Sunil Gavaskar’s son Rohan Gavaskar also named Abhishek Sharma as the uncapped player of the season. He praised the batsman for his brave batting and also credited Head for redefining the face of T20 cricket and how it is played.

“My uncapped player of the season has been Abhishek Sharma. The way he has batted throughout the season, fearless batting, and I think he and Travis Head have redefined how batting should be done in T20 cricket,” said Rohan Gavaskar.

Lastly, Manoj Tiwary also agreed with Abhishek’s name. Tiwary stated that the batsman has really set a blueprint for other openers and that is how one should bat in T20.

“The way he has batted has set a blueprint for himself and others that this is how openers should play T20 cricket,” Manoj Tiwary said.
