Ajinkya Rahane in trouble as BCCI accuses KKR captain of violating rule

Double trouble for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane. The team remained winless after 5 matches in the IPL 2026 season. Additionally, they will have to pay a fine to the board for violating the IPL code of conduct.

In the wee hours of April 15, it was reported that KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane will have to pay INR 12 lakh for violating the rule during the Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders (CSK vs KKR) match on April 14 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, where KKR secured their fourth loss of the season and remain at the lowest position in the points table.

Ajinkya Rahane will have to pay INR 12 lakh to the board

Rahane was fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for maintaining excessive and slow pace during the match. As it was the team’s first violation of the current season, as per Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which refers to minimum violations of overrating.

As per this rule, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane will have to pay INR 12 lakh as fine. In the future, if they repeat the same mistake, the penalty amount will gradually increase.

IPL issued an official statement

“Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined after his team maintained slow overspeed during the 22nd match of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai,” IPL said in an official statement.

“As this was his team’s first violation of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which refers to minimum over-rate violations, Rahane was fined INR 12 lakhs,” it further reads.

Shreyas Iyer has broken the rule twice in his season

Rahane has become the fourth player this season to be charged with a speeding offence. Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer is the first to inscribe his name on the list. So far, Iyer has been penalized twice for slow over-rating. For the first time, he had to pay INR 12 lakh as penalty, and for the second time, when his team repeated the same under his leadership, the penalty amount was increased to INR 24 lakh. PBKS could not maintain the top rates during the match against Gujarat Titans in New Chandigarh on March 31 and against CSK on April 2.

Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill and CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad were the other two captains after Iyer who had to pay penalties for maintaining excessively slow speeds. Gill’s GT was found guilty against Delhi Capitals on April 8, and Gaikwad’s CSK was accused of the same offense during their match against Delhi last week.

For the first time in the league. Kolkata Knight Riders recorded a winless streak after 5 games. In those 5 games, they have 4 losses and one match annihilated. Due to the lost match against PBKS, they are 1 point ahead.
