Former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff will not be part of the national team’s coaching staff for the upcoming white-ball series against the Australian national cricket team. A report by the Telegraph claims that the ECB is planning to give stand-in white-ball coach Marcus Trescothick full responsibility for the team.

Andrew Flintoff has been with the white-ball squad of the England National Cricket Team since last year. He even served as the team’s assistant coach in the recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup, which took place in the United States of America and the Caribbean in June.

England’s national cricket team did not have a great campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Indian national cricket team thrashed the defending champions in the semi-final. The defending champions also struggled in the league stage, losing to Australia and almost getting beaten by Scotland.

However, Andrew Flintoff will not be taking part in the three-match T20I series or the five-match ODI series against the Australian National Cricket Team. The former England National Cricket Team player will embark on a new phase in his coaching career.

Flintoff has been working on a short-term project. with the England national cricket team. He has not had a full-time contract with the team. He has also taken on his first in-game senior coaching role with the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred 2024.

Under his leadership, the Northern Superchargers had a decent season. They won five matches and lost just two but failed to secure a place in the play-off stage. It was also learnt that he did not share a great rapport with white-ball captain Jos Buttler during the T20 World Cup in June.

Since last year, Andrew Flintoff has been hard at work as a coach. Last year, he worked as a scout for England, working with youth teams before starting to work as a consultant for the white-ball national team since September.

Cricket has given me so much – Andrew Flintoff

Andrew Flintoff, who does not consider himself a candidate for the white-ball head coaching position, recently spoke about his love for the game. He said that he is lucky to be coaching teams that have been playing the game for a while. He had said:

“Cricket has given me so much. It’s all I ever wanted to do as a kid and I got the chance to live out my dream. I feel so lucky to be back here and I want the lads to appreciate playing. When you’re done playing, you look back and it all goes by so quickly, but you take time out when you’re there, just to look around and take it in and be in the moment.

“And that’s what I’m doing these days. Living in the moment and enjoying it. And that’s something I want the players and the teams that play under me to do,” he concluded.
