He scored only 142 races in 11 entries.
On a special Tuesday night at Ahmedabad on June 3, Bengaluru, Royal Challengers, finally won his first IPL trophy after waiting 18 years. They beat Punjab Kings for six races in the IPL 2025 final.
RCB had a great season in IPL 2025. They won 11 games and lost only four. A great reason for his success was Chief coach Andy Flower, who guided the team well with his experience.
Flower is a upper T20 coach. He won the T20 World Cup with England in 2010 and has gone well in the leagues since 2020. Under their leadership, the Finen Sultans reached PSL playoffs for the first time and won the title the following year. He also helped the kings of San Lucía to reach two CPL finals and won trophies with Rockets Trent in the one hundred Gulf giants in the ILT20.
Flower reveals why RCB wanted Venkatesh Iyer
After the final, Flower shared that RCB had gone hard for Venkatesh Iyer during the IPL 2025 auction because they qualified it highly and wanted a strong Indian nucleus. He said that Iyer had joined RCB, he could have had a great season. This showed how much the team’s management believed in his talent.
“We really described Venky, that’s why we went hard for him because we valued a strong Indian nucleus for our team. If he came and played for us, he would have had a great season,” said Andy Flower.

How to miss Venkatesh Iyer helped RCB
At Riad’s auction last November, RCB tried to buy Venkatesh Iyer and rose to INR 23.50 million rupees. But Kolkata Knight riders offered INR 23.75 million rupees and obtained it. Iyer scored only 142 races in 11 tickets, and it seemed that RCB was lucky that they have not understood.
RCB used that money in a better way. They bought Josh Hazlewood for INR 12.50 million rupees and Phil Salt for INR 11.50 million rupees. Both players played important parts to help RCB win the trophy. The team also chose players like JITESH Sharma and Bhuvnehwar Kumar, which caused the team to be strong and well balanced.
These good decisions helped RCB win their first IPL trophy after waiting for more than 18 years.
