Team India’s squad for the all-important ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be announced this week. The national selectors will reportedly meet in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (April 30) to finalize the squad for the showpiece event to be played in June this year.
And ahead of the team selection, Bollywood superstar and Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan sent a timely reminder to the selectors about his desire to see Rinku Singh in the team. Shah Rukh is eager to see the KKR batsman in India’s squad for the World Cup, scheduled to be played in the United States and the West Indies.
Rinku Singh is in the race for the T20 World Cup after his impressive performance in the shortest format of the game in recent months. He had an incredible campaign in the last edition of the IPL which finally paved the way for his debut in international cricket. Rinku Singh also started working in international cricket and is considered by many to be an ideal candidate for the finisher’s role in the team.
Shah Rukh Khan’s message to the selectors:
Hours before the selectors’ meeting in Ahmedabad, Shah Rukh revealed his desire to see Rinku Singh play his first T20 World Cup in the coming days. Speaking to Star Sports after KKR’s match against Delhi Capitals, the veteran actor said:
“Being able to participate in the journey of the young people, who have become incredible players and playing for the country. I really want Rinku to be in the World Cup team and also some other young people from other teams, you deserve it so much.
“But apna hi toh personal hota hain (but since he is with us, it’s personal). So if Rinku makes it to the team, I will be very happy.” he added.
Talking about the game, KKR thrashed DC by seven wickets to get back to winning ways. After restricting DC to 153/9, KKR chased down the total within 17 overs losing just three wickets.
Rinku Singh in IPL 2024:
Unlike last season, when he scored 474 runs at an average of nearly 60 and a strike rate of 150, Rinku Singh has struggled to make an impact with the bat in IPL 2024. He has barely gotten a chance to bat this season. . In 9 games so far, the left-hander has faced just 82 deliveries and scored 123 runs.
He had a chance to hit for long against DC on Monday (April 29). However, the Uttar Pradesh star could not stay in the crease for long and was dismissed for 11 runs by Lizaad Williams. He will hope to get some opportunities in the remaining games to prepare for the T20 World Cup.
