This resulted in Root being stumped for the first time in Test Cricket. England suffered a heavy loss as Root’s ground was instrumental in the team’s triumph. Lyon, on the other hand, made a brilliant tactical move by tricking Root with his flight and convincing him to commit to the shot before taking the ball away from him.

“Joe Root is playing a different style of cricket” – Brad Hogg

Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg has praised Joe Root’s audacious batting in Birmingham but believes the blow against Australia’s Nathan Lyon should have been avoided. Joe Root played brilliantly and scored a magnificent before being sacked off Lyon’s kick-off.

“Joe Root is playing a different style of cricket. The Bazball is out, we are seeing reverse sweeps that we have never seen before in Test cricket against fast bowling. That’s just sensational, you’ve never heard of him before.” Brad Hogg said.

“But with the Bazball in the second inning, I thought it was too aggressive. The shot he took off Nathan Lyon was hard work. It was not a cricket shot and if he is playing T20 cricket I would have been disappointed as a manager with that kind of shot.” Brad Hogg added.
