During an interview with SENQ Breakfast with Pat and Heals, Border confidently stated: “I think Boland has to play. The current form of him is so good. I think he is the perfect type of bowler for English conditions. It’s just the way he hits the wicket, he kisses the wicket as I call it, he just lifts the seam. They’re talking about, ‘Oh, they’ll treat him like an interloper, and they’ll just charge him.’ Okay, good luck with that, because he’s a little faster than you think.”

Michael Vaughan undercuts Scott Boland against England

“(Bazball) has worked against most of the teams that have played. However, this Australian team is different. They are a relentless bowling unit. But they will try and they will dance away.

“From the length of Scott Boland, they will play it like roulette. They will be. “They’ll be running down, they’ll be trying to get off the stump, they know where it’s going to land it. They’re going to be trying to whip him on the side.” Vaughan said on Fox Cricket’s Ashes Preview.

Border’s endorsement of Scott Boland is based not only on the bowler’s recent form, but also on his impressive record in Test cricket, where he has averaged 14.57 with the ball in eight matches. Additionally, Border expressed concern about Hazlewood’s fitness, as the fast pitcher has struggled with injuries over the past two years.

“I’m just worried about Hazelwood,” Border said. He basically has played three or four games in the last few years and has been injured almost every time. I’m just worried going into this particular test match. He would have it (in the team), he’s going to play a role at some point, but just in this first one, you want all your players to be 100 percent fit and ready to play. The other guys are fit and raring to go and he can be there (on hold). He is a useful replacement when we need him later in the series.”

As Ashes 2023 approaches, the selection decisions made by both teams will play a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the series. The battle between bat and ball promises to be intense, and the inclusion of a skilled bowler in Scott Boland could give Australia an added advantage.
