England opener Zak Crawley has revealed the message he received from Brendon McCullum, the England head coach ahead of the second Test at Lord’s. Crawley began his innings with a four from the first in the Edgbaston test match. He scored a gutsy 61 to get his team off to a good start in the first test.
Crawley was unable to get off to a good start in the second inning. He scored just seven of 25 deliveries in the second inning. Neither batsman could withstand Australia’s pace attack as they were bowled out for just 273 in the second innings.

Speaking to Virgin Radio in the UK, Zak Crawley got the pep talk he got from Brendon McCullum ahead of the second test which starts in five days from June 28.
“He even said we should go a little harder next game. Any doubt you had in this game, you take it away. In your head you might think I should do this or take it easy for 10 minutes and not go out. Baz would say that you absolutely should do that. He told me, they put a man on the fence, why didn’t you hit him? I didn’t even think about it” Crawley said.

The England opener further said that the mentality of the team was to play entertaining cricket and not worry about winning or losing. The England team managed to fight until the last session of day five before Pat Cummins won the match for his team.

As a team, it’s not all about results: Zak Crawley
“That’s what it’s all about: it’s not about results, we always talk about that, it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about entertainment. Of course we’re there to win, and it helps our brand and what we’re trying to do if we win, we get more traction if we win. But I don’t think we’ve lost anything this week apart from a cricket game, which is (in) a five match series. Other than that, we’ve earned a lot of respect and support and I think it’s great for the game.” Crawley told Independent.
The will of the Lord will house the second ashes Test from June 28 to July 2. Headingly will host the third test from July 6 to 10. Manchester (July 19-23) and The Oval (July 27-31) will host the final two Test matches to conclude the series.
