David Warner retired from Test cricket on Saturday after Australia completed a clean sweep against Pakistan. The Australians won the third Test by 8 wickets and Warner scored 57 in the second innings in a chase of 130.
Australia completed a clean sweep and regained the number one spot in the WTC points table after the test series victory. Warner retired with 8786 runs in 112 Test matches with 26 hundreds, three double hundreds and 37 fifties.
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who played alongside Warner in the early years of the IPL for Delhi Daredevils, wished the left-hander in a unique way. Warner has retired from Test and ODI cricket but is open to playing T20I cricket for the national team.
In the same vein, Sehwag wanted Warner to continue making reels and playing T20 cricket. The Australian opener is among the few international cricketers who are regularly active on Instagram.

Best wishes for the next phase: Virender Sehwag to David Warner
Congratulations @davidwarner31 on a wonderful Test career. From the moment I saw you, I knew this is the format you will shine the most in and what a journey it has been. Full of on-field entertainment and now hopefully more on reels and T20 cricket. Best wishes for the next phase. pic.twitter.com/GSgIbXaH6N

In a long speech after announcing his retirement from Test, Warner thanked everyone from his teammates to his wife and loved ones who have played an important role in his Test career.
“We are all almost over 30 years old, as time goes by we are not getting any younger, but this team has energy, it is world class and it is a great group of guys. (How would you like to be remembered?) Exciting, entertaining and I hope I can make everyone smile with the way I played. Hopefully young kids can follow in my footsteps, from white ball cricket to Test cricket, it’s the pinnacle of our sport. So keep working hard and play the red ball game, which is also entertaining. Thank you all,” Warner said about his Test retirement.
David Warner also mentioned his wife Candice Warner’s name as she played a pivotal role in shaping his career, especially after the infamous Sandpaper Gate scandal.
“Candice put me on the line. We have had a beautiful family. I appreciate every moment I spend with them. I love them to death and I’m not going to move on because I’ll get too excited. Thank you Candice for what you have done, you mean a lot to me and I appreciate it,” Warner said of his wife.
The Australian Cricket Board needs to find Warner’s replacement before their next Test series against the West Indies. Meanwhile, several names have been considered and Steve Smith is likely to be the favorite to replace Warner at the top. The former Australian captain has never debuted in Test cricket, but he seemed excited at the new opportunity.
David Warner will next be seen leading the Dubai Capitals at ILT20 2024 starting January 19 in the United Arab Emirates.
