THE LOWDOWN

AUSTRALIA

World Cup champions Australia return home and don the whites for their first home Test of the summer. There are plenty of noteworthy stories ahead of this series. David Warner begins his final summer of Test cricket in Australia before retiring from the format, spin-bowler Nathan Lyon returns from his injury suffered in the Ashes earlier this year and the ‘Wild Thing’ Lance Morris could be in line for his Test debut on home soil after the right-arm pacer was called up for the first time.

PAKISTAN

Pakistan travel to Australia with little expected of them outside of their own country, mainly due to them not really having a settled team. This will be their first Test under the command of new captain Shan Masood following Babar Azam’s resignation following the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. Shaheen Shah Afridi leads the bowling attack, supported by Hasan Ali and spinner Abrar Ahmed, although the latter is an injury doubt after suffering discomfort in his right leg.

THE PREDICTION

Australia rightly arrive in Perth as the overwhelming favourites in home conditions and it’s really difficult to see Pakistan being able to match them. The batting line-up of Australia just looks far stronger and if Babar Azam fails to fire for Pakistan, then it may well lead to a collapse. The World Test Champions and World Cup winners are flying high following a wonderful year on the field and are expected to record a 1-0 series lead fairly comfortably.
