THE LOWDOWN

AUSTRALIA

The post-David Warner era begins in Adelaide for Australia and Steve Smith will be given first crack as Warner’s replacement at the top of the order. His move to opener means that Cameron Green slots in at number four, where he averages over 65.00 in the Sheffield Shield. No change is expected on the bowling front, with Scott Boland likely to remain on standby should Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood or captain Pat Cummins get injured.

WEST INDIES

West Indies are unsurprisingly the biggest of underdogs heading into this series, but with nothing to lose they can at least approach the first Test with some level of freedom. The experienced Kemar Roach offers a valuable pace bowling threat, whilst Alzarri Joseph will back him up, fresh from being named the Windies vice-captain. Seven uncapped players are in the squad but the worry will be where the runs are coming from, with plenty of them needed to give themselves any chance of toppling the Aussies.

THE PREDICTION

It’s been over 25 years since West Indies won a Test match in Australia and it’s very hard to see that changing in this game. Australia should comprehensively outscore the tourists as they did against Pakistan, racking up enough runs to take control of the Test early on and ultimately emerge as fairly comfortable winners across the five days.
