The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued an apology after security personnel assaulted a journalist in Dhaka during the third-day match between Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the single test.

BCB director Ismail Haider Mallick made a statement in the press box within an hour of the accident saying that the people involved in the unfortunate incident will be removed from their duties.

BCB will investigate the case of assault on a senior journalist

Mallick further said the board is in the process of identifying the culprits involved in assaulting senior journalist Tasfiq Shahriar, who works for the Cricfrenzy website. BCB He also said that all arrangements will be made so that the people involved in this case are duly punished.

The incident occurred when Mr. Tasfiq Shahriar was waiting for one of his teammates to bring his accreditation card so he could enter the press box during the game on the third day. One of the security guards told him to stand on the other side of the street. Journalists usually wait near Gate Number 1 of the Shere Bangla National Stadium, and Shahriar walked away from that spot when asked to do so.

Suddenly, one of the security guards launched an attack on him, catching him off guard. Shahriar, who was speaking to another journalist at the time, said at least three to five people attacked him, leaving him beaten and bruised around his nose and throat.

This is not the first time that BCB security guards have attacked journalists. Similar incidents occurred in 2005, 2006, and 2016. Various reports of such attacks have also not been detailed.

Talking about the unique test match of Bangladesh vs Afghanistan, the visitors won the toss and opted to bowl first in Dhaka. Bangladesh scored 382 in their first innings. They declared their first innings at 425/4 with Nazmul Hossain Shanto (121) and Mominul Haque (124) scoring centuries.

Afghanistan, in response, were bowled out for just 146 in their first innings with Bangladesh pacemaker Ebadot Hossain taking four wickets. The Afghans are chasing a mammoth target of 663 in their second innings and are at 45/2 after the end of day three play and need another 617 runs to win the Test match.
