Big blow for CSK as Ayush Mhatre ruled out of IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took a big hit amidst IPL 2026 as their young sensation Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the tournament. CSK have already gone through a difficult phase and now Ayush Mhatre’s injury has added to their woes.

Ayush suffered a left hamstring injury during Chennai Super Kings’ previous IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. He got injured while trying to play a quick double in the match against SRH.

Quick double spin nightmare for Ayush Mhatre

During the race, Ayush suddenly felt pain in his left leg and was seen holding his hamstring on the field. He was clearly struggling and had to be treated immediately on the field. The incident occurred in the fifth over of CSK’s chase after playing an impressive knock of 30 runs off 13 balls.

At the time, it seemed like a minor problem, but subsequent scans revealed that it was actually a serious tear in his hamstring. This means it will now take 6-12 weeks to properly heal his hamstring injury, ending his chances of playing any role in the rest of the ongoing IPL 2026.

How Ayush’s injury shakes CSK

Ayush Mhatre’s injury has made things even more difficult for the five-time champion, who is already facing multiple problems. They already lost Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis to injuries, and Dewald Brevis is struggling after returning from injury.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is also fighting for runs. Mhatre played a key role at No. 3. The CSK team management knows that this is a big loss but they also see it as an opportunity for other players to prove their worth in the ongoing tournament.

Urvil Patel likely to replace Ayush Mhatre in CSK XI

A few options are being considered to take Ayush’s place in the batting order. Urvil Patel is currently the strongest option as he has an impressive T20 strike rate of around 179, which suits the aggressive role at No. 3. Apart from him, the team can also think about promoting Matthew Short up the order or giving Prashant Veer a chance.

There is also a possibility of rearranging the batting line-up, especially if MS Dhoni He remains available for selection after recovering from his injury. CSK are gearing up to take on Mumbai Indians on April 23 in their upcoming IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
