Big blow for CSK as Khaleel Ahmed ruled out of IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered a major setback in the ongoing IPL 2026, and it has come at the worst possible time. Just when things were starting to calm down for Chennai Super Kings, Khaleel Ahmed sent shockwaves within the camp.

Khaleel Ahmed suffered an injury while playing at number 17 for CSK in their previous IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Chepauk Stadium. It was a simple hip pain that has now turned into a major setback for both the fast bowler and the five-time champions.

CSK in trouble as Khaleel Ahmed ruled out of IPL 2026

As reported by India Today and other media outlets, Khaleel has been ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing IPL 2026 season after suffering a quadriceps injury.

The fast player has suffered a grade 2 tear. Along with this, there is also a high-grade stretch injury in the right thigh muscle area. A portion of the muscle is said to have completely torn, making its recovery process longer and more complicated.

Khaleel will now need proper treatment and a long time to heal properly. His rehabilitation is expected to last between 10 and 12 weeks, which is almost three months. Considering that the CSK fast bowler will no longer be able to participate in the ongoing tournament.

An IPL source said: “It is a grade 2 tear and rehabilitation will take at least 10-12 weeks.” An official statement on Khaleel’s injury is expected soon from the franchise and the IPL.

Khaleel Ahmed’s injury forces a big change of plans

It was a major setback for CSK as they had just made a comeback after three straight losses in the ongoing IPL 2026. Khaleel was doing a good job in the powerplay and making strides, so losing him means the team will now have to adjust their bowling plans.

In his absence, Gurjapneet Singh and Anshul Kamboj are expected to play a larger role alongside England’s Jamie Overton. The 28-year-old pacer, who was retained for ₹4.8 crore, played five matches and picked up two wickets for CSK this season at an economy rate of 8.67.
