Pakistan all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed liked a social media post criticizing his teammate Imad Wasim following their loss to Team India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Iftikhar Ahmed’s action suggests possible divisions within the dressing room of Pakistan during the prestigious ICC Tournament.

The Babar Azam-led team lost to the Rohit Sharma-led team in a low-scoring encounter at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday, June 9. The Men in Green failed to reach a target of 120 runs despite dominating against the Indian bowlers for most of the chase.

Pakistan team was in winning position with 48 runs needed off 48 balls. Fakhar Zaman was dismissed for 13 runs off 8 deliveries in the second ball of the 13th over. Imad Wasim reached the crease at number 5 when Pakistan were at 73/3. He struggled to control the chase and help the Pakistan team reach the target.

Imad Wasim scored 15 runs off 23 deliveries before being dismissed on the first ball of the over. The Men in Green needed 18 runs in the last five deliveries. Naseem Shah scored a couple of boundaries but they missed the target by six runs in the much-awaited T20 World Cup 2024 game.

After Pakistan’s defeat, an X (formerly known as Twitter) user mocked Imad Wasim’s batting performance, calling it a “masterclass”. Surprisingly, Iftikhar Ahmed liked the tweet, leading to speculation over concerns about unity within the Pakistani dressing room following their loss to India.

The Pakistan team suffered a defeat against the United States of America (USA) via Super Over in its first match of the World Cup. However, the Babar Azam-led team bounced back with a comfortable seven-wicket win against Canada in their third match at the same venue in New York on Tuesday, June 11.

Iftikhar Ahmed knows an opportunity – Wasim Akram

In a post-match interview with Star Sports, legendary Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram criticized Iftikhar Ahmed’s batting skills, stating that he only knows one shot on the leg side despite being in the team for years. Akram suggested the need for a change in the team while retaining the coaches.

“Iftikhar Ahmed knows a shot on the side of the leg. He’s been part of the team for years but doesn’t know how to hit. I can’t go tell Fakhar Zaman about the knowledge of the game. Pakistani players think that if they don’t play well, the coaches will be fired and nothing will happen to them. “It’s time to keep the coaches and change the entire team,” Akram said.

The Babar Azam-led team will take on Team Ireland in their final group stage match at the Turf Ground at Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, Florida on Sunday, June 16. The Pakistan cricket team must win its last match and wait for the results of the United States team to secure a place in the Super 8.
