KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul couldn’t control his emotions after his team thrashed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 39 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Courtesy Marcus Stoinis. The match between the two teams took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

It was a special performance by Marcus Stoinis at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai when he single-handedly took his team home. Chasing 211 runs, it looked like they would lose by a big margin as they lost early wickets and were playing the game of catch.

However, Marcus Stoinis made sure to exude class with the bat. The all-rounder came in at number 3 and stood tall at one end while wickets continued to fall at the other end. He made sure to keep scoring runs on one end to keep his team in the game.

Marcus Stoinis was at his best as he barely made a mistake and played some brutal shots in his innings. The all-rounder hit the Chennai Super Kings bowlers all over the park and kept the run rate in check. He first got vital support from Nicholas Pooran (34), as the duo put pressure on the opposition.

After Marcus Stoinis made his half-century, it didn’t immediately look like he was going to get out. He scored a magnificent century, but he knew he still had work to do. He did not lose his cool after the century and took his team home to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Deepak Hooda (17*) played a crucial hand at the end and took the game to the end. With 17 runs needed in the last over, Marcus Stoinis brought out the brutal version of him, chased down the target within three balls and led his team to a 6-wicket victory in the tournament. He scored an unbeaten 124 runs and guided his team to the fifth victory in IPL 2024.

While scoring the winning runs, captain KL Rahul’s reaction caught the attention of many. The wicketkeeper-batsman shouted loudly with joy inside the dressing room as the entire Lucknow Super Giants dugout went crazy. Few players even ran onto the field to celebrate with Stoinis.

Lots of ebbs and flows, just tried to keep it under control – Marcus Stoinis after taking LSG refine

Marcus Stoinis spoke about his innings after the game, stating that he had a few players to target and also credited Nicholas Pooran for taking the pressure off him. Speaking to reporters during the post-match presentation, he explained:

“In these competitions, there are a lot better opening batsmen than me, so I leave it to them. It’s not just about go, go, go, there were some bowlers we wanted to target and some bowlers we wanted to target against. We wanted to be more cautious. There was a phase where I couldn’t reach the limits, so it was great that Pooran could come in and take the pressure off me.

“A lot of ebbs and flows just trying to keep it under control. You’re planning and structuring, you don’t like certain players and you like others more. I think T20 cricket is changing, the scores that have been scored, the role of the impact player and how teams are taking on pitchers.”

Lucknow Super Giants will next be seen in action when they take on Rajasthan Royals on Saturday (April 27).
